Q: Are US investment funds and European investment funds the same?
Could someone please elaborate on this.
Investment funds anywhere in the world are established and regulated under the law of the country in which the investment company is located.
US investment companies (funds) are established under the law of the state in which the investment company is located and regulated by the SEC under the Investment Companies Act of 1940.
European investment funds are established under and regulated by the law of the country in which the investment company is located. In the European Union, collective investment funds are established under the directive on undertakings for collective investment in transferable securities (UCITS) – the main regulatory framework covering investment funds in the EU.
